Eighteen

Went to see Blind Guardian with my RL friend Pontus on my birthday yesterday. As expected, it pwned!

The song list was, if I remember correctly:

  1. War of Wrath
  2. Into the Storm
  3. Born in a Mourning Hall
  4. Fly
  5. The Script for my Requiem
  6. Nightfall
  7. Another Stranger Me
  8. Valhalla
  9. Lord of the Rings
  10. And Then There Was Silence
  11. And The Story Ends
  12. Ashes to Ashes
  13. Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)
  14. The Bard’s Song
  15. Imaginations From The Other Side
  16. Bright Eyes
  17. Mirror Mirror

I was close to crying tears of joy when they started playing And Then There Was Silence! I thought they’d played more songs from A Twist in the Myth though, considering it was the album release tour for that album ;o

Anyways, apparently I have to purchase a seperate USB cord for my phone to transfer the pictures, videos and recordings I took during the concert, so meh. I’ll update once I do. ;D

I had a great 18th birthday, that was probably the best present someone could’ve given me ;o

Politics

So the center-right won the election, and the Alliance gets to rule Sweden for 4 years. I really wonder if someone has photoshopped Lars Ohly going “FOR THE HORDE” yet. But yeah, finally another government. I’m not really left or right, but never before have I seen the left so boring and without ideas as this year.

Obviously I also hope that the sick and unemployed won’t suffer too much from this government, but really, I hope they aren’t stupid enough to lose this confidence and just lose again in 4 years. The right hasn’t had this kind of chance to make serious changes in the country for decades, so I really hope they can pull it off without going too right-wing.

But seriously. The attitude “We have it pretty good now, let’s not change anything” pisses me off so much.

Your soul’s like water and like the rain it will return

Today I came back to school after being sick for most of last week. Apparently I’m doing my presentation on Life after Death in two weeks, so I went straight to researching. I’m going to do a 20 minute info part and 10 minutes of discussion. Info will probably be the views of different religions, the philosophical sides and some general arguments for and against. The discussion part could be very interesting or not interesting at all, all depending on the class. There’s not many things I hate more than when people are apathetic to things like that. I made a poll on the Pure Pwnage forums that as many of you as possible should vote for to help my project ;P

Anyways, I also managed to get my Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector working… on my dad’s computer. For some reason the program wanted to use 95% of my computer’s CPU, but on both my dad’s and Michael’s computers it runs without any complications. Oh well, not a big problem I suppose. I played some Mario Kart DS online with Serchul, Tenchi, L33tfella and Anticamper yesterday, and it’s great to play on TS or at any given time, really ;D

I’ve also continued to listen to the musical crack that is A Twist in the Myth, I’ve gotten into most of the songs now, although The Edge and Dead Sound of Misery remain my favourite tracks.

Come share our sorrows, be one with the Hydra

Yesterday during my lunch break, I walked to the record shop to pick up my copy of the long awaited new album by Blind Guardian, A Twist in the Myth. Having just a seed of doubt that they may have changed their sound to something too far away from what’s so awesome about them, I was a bit nervous putting the record in. At first I found it musically lacking, until I got home and realised I had just played it on a shitty stereo the first time. In short, it pwned like expected ;D The musical style is hard to explain, I guess it’s classic Blind Guardian with a more modern touch as well as some old speed/thrash reminders, which is really what I wanted. Highlights musically would be This Will Never End, Otherland, Another Stranger Me and obviously The Edge:

I’m especially fond of the album lyrically, as most of the songs and in particular the three last songs (including the bonus track) are all about religion to some extent. The Edge seems to be about the crucifixion, which would be the first by Blind Guardian to directly deal with the subject.

I was, however, the most suprised by the song I knew would be the “dark” version of the ridiculously happy “Fly”. It’s so much more than that. It seems to be about the End Times and the Fall of Lucifer using Greek mythology among others as symbols. There are very obvious hints too: “Look, the Archangel falls now, the mourners split”, “Turn your back on the ones you have loved, enjoy the heat of your whore, Babylon”, “Hear what the Spirit says: There is no sense at all, now come with me, unfold the seals”. Well, maybe obvious to certain people 😉

The full lyrics can be seen if you extend this blog entry… I am also writing an analysis on the lyrics, which is not complete yet, but I’ve made some progress which you can see in the seperate page I made for it on the blog

Fevers blow

So yeah, I rarely get sick, but some bacteria pwned my throat, and now I have a fever. I’ve been spending my time with Ultima Online, Zero Hour, GTA – San Andreas and Pokémon Yellow.

Yeah, you read correctly. Basically I was getting all excited about the upcoming Pokémon Diamond/Pearl coming out for the DS early 2007. It has Wi-Fi support, so you can trade, duel and even TALK online with anyone, it’s going to be awesome to do it in the TS community. But so anyways, I mentioned this to Zordar, who in his turn started to remind me of the good old days in like 5th and 6th grade where we would battle it out with our Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellows for hours. Basically, a great sense of nostalgia gripped me, and I had to play it again. So I started a new game (obviously saving all my uber l33t level 100 (non-rare candied) Pokémon to my Stadium first) and now I have 3 badges already.

In Ultima Online, the guild has merged with Adam Shadow’s old guild and we’ll soon be a force to be reckoned with on the server. I’ve been doing some hunting and training carpentry and archery while we’re waiting for Adam to set things up. It’s going to be pretty sweet…

In other news, Blind Guardian’s new album A Twist in the Myth is to come out on Monday it seems, which is most certainly going to PWN. There’s also a good chance that I’ll have my Mario Kart DS and maybe my Wi-Fi USB adapter on Monday or Tuesday so I can finally play with Anti-Camper, Hagios, L33tfella and all the other TS guys.

Hrugnir signing off
